Students: the same reduced-price plan, verified differently

Amazon's reduced-price plan covers students and people aged 18–24 at $7.49/month or $69.00/year — that wording is from Amazon's own plan page, checked 2026-10-03. If you are enrolled, verification usually happens through the enrollment check on Amazon's page. What that check accepts for your school and your enrolment type is Amazon's call, not ours: confirm it there before you count on the discount.

New members can try the membership free for 30 days days. After the trial, it renews at $14.99/month unless you cancel.

The Young Adults plan currently starts at $0 for the first 6 months months, then $7.49/month.

Your numbers

If you only need it for a school year (9 months), monthly costs $67.41 — less than the $69.00 annual price. The annual plan is only cheaper if you keep it for a full 12 months.

Worth more in week one of a term than in week ten. Honest numbers beat flattering ones.

Worked example: a 9-month school year

Three small orders a month at $3.00 each is $9.00/month of shipping you would otherwise pay, against $7.49/month: $1.51/month ahead while the term lasts. Over nine months that is $13.59 ahead — on a plan that costs $67.41 for those nine months. If you keep it for the full year on the monthly price, the same numbers are $18.12 ahead; the annual price ($5.75/month) is $39.00 ahead.

The lesson is not that students should buy it. It is that the size of the win depends on the length of the term, and a nine-month need is a bad fit for a twelve-month price.

Who should NOT get this

Questions we get

Does my school count?

That is Amazon's decision and their enrollment check. We list what their plan page says, link to it, and stop there.

What if I am over 24?

Amazon's page groups the plan as "students or 18-24 year olds", which reads as student status rather than age as the qualifier — but that is our reading of one sentence, not a rule we can guarantee. The enrollment check is authoritative.

Monthly or annual while I study?

Monthly, if your need is term-shaped. Annual is $69.00 = $5.75/month, which only wins if you carry it through the summer.

Is it still worth it once the student discount ends?

That is a different question, and the arithmetic differs: when eligibility ends the plan renews at the standard $14.99/month — roughly twice the discounted price. The young-adult page prices both prices in one verdict (the eligibility-cliff calculator), because a plan can clear the discounted fee and still fail on the price you would keep paying. Run your numbers there before you commit to a year.

Does a student plan change the card math?

Yes — a lower membership fee lowers the spend needed to make the top card rate pay for itself. The card calculator takes the fee as an input.
